I think those in military shouldn't have to follow the normal sex-etiquette rules. If a female chooses to make the military her career, she's got to be able to hold her own. An enemy isn't gonna cut her any slack, nor should her fellow soldiers. Plus, her team members need to know that they can depend on her if it comes down to it. They can't baby her.

I find that's true at higher levels of the work environment too. Sure, you should guide them to get them started, but then they have to learn to be self-sufficient, if they want to get anywhere in this life. I can tell pretty soon after someone is hired if they are gonna make it or not by the amount of initiative they show.

I don't often wait for someone to show me how to do something. I may ask a couple questions to guide me in the right direction, but then I like to figure out the rest myself, because it sticks in my head longer that way. And then whatever I learn, I do my best to pass on to others.

Hi Tim,

I don't think blogging is in any danger. I don't even really think that business blogs are in any danger.

Business people always seem to adjust to a changing market.

Completely agree that new methods of presentation will need to be explored.

One of the things that does bother me is that business type bloggers keep pushing methods that worked for them in the past even beyond the point where they are still valid today.

Successful business's stay ahead of the curve not behind it.

Hey Glen,

Some interesting thoughts here. I'm too new to blogging so I can't argue your points either way. I certainly hope blogging is not in danger. :-)

I will say that I see sales letter websites that still produce years after launching. It may take a handful of bad products before you find one that will sustain life for a while. That makes me think they may not be going away, but just need to be presented differently. For example, long sales letters may be a thing of the past, but who's to say a short letter with video wouldn't work just as well. It's all about testing new delivery methods.

In the same way, I don't think list building is going away any time soon. Yes, it's more difficult these days, but again, it probably just requires more creative ways to get the opt-in.

A lot to think about here...

I'm trying a new comment plugin and it automatically cuts out the authors replies.

It won't be on here long. I don't like the format of the plugin so I'll be replacing it with something else.

Yeah, must be that you're just not that bright, because I've left you a couple comments like that, but you keep treating them like I'm joking.

p.s.,
Why don't your comments show up on the sidebar? Makes it look like we're talking to ourselves.

I can see how it would be frustrating.
Personally I haven't had those kinds of comments. Or I'm just not bright enough to notice but there are certainly lots of them left on sites I visit.

Ohhh, I have a lot of experience with the latter from when I used to write my town blog. Some I could just blow off, but my response to most went anywhere between hurt and angry. Hurt, because I was doing this (the blog) mostly for their benefit, and this is how they repay me. Angry for similar reasons, but not only at the commenter. I got angry sometimes at my regular readership who didn't defend me too. By their silence, they leant credence to the commenter's judgement.

I agree about sales not necessarily being real deals. I had a family member who was excited about saving less than a dollar on some screws once who had driven to 5 different places to "save" the money.

Thanks for the help with the Mac characters.

Sometimes a deal really is a deal, but what you have to go through to get it isn't always worth the effort, like all those Black Friday advertised items. I'd rather pay full price than deal with all those crazy people. Oh, and let's not forget the deals that really are deals, at least in the sales circular, but somehow the store's cash registers aren't told about the sales price, and so you pay full price, but you don't discover it until it's too late.

As for your $ sign dilemma, it made me finally get around to finding out how to do ascii characters on a mac, which I think is your issue too. On PC's, you have to hold the ALT button down and somehow remember what 3-digit code to punch in to get the symbol you're looking for to print out. On macs, it turns out to be much more logical. For instance, a cent sign is made by just hitting the Option and $ sign buttons at the same time, and wahla, you've got a ¢
