Daphne Duck Survives the Winter

16 Feb

Daphne wondered why she had slept so late. She knew the ducks were flying south for the winter in November.

But now here it was February and she had just woke up.

“What the quack!” she yelled. “Where’s my flocking quack?”
Daphne often mixed up her quacks and words when she was upset.

Of course the flock was gone.

Not one of them bothered to wake up Daphne. That and her alarm clock didn’t go off.
And she was a heavy sleeper.

“Well,” Daphne quacked to no duck at all. “I guess I’ll just sit here alone and freeze to death.”

So, for the next few hours Daphne just sat there all alone in her nest waiting to freeze to death.

But instead of the nest feeling frozen like it should she noticed that her nest was damp.

“This is stupid.” said Daphne. Apparently like many humans Daphne talked to herself.
“If I’m not going to freeze to death I may as well get something to eat.”

Fortunately for her there was a place nearby that sold chicken m*nuggets. Her favorite.
And they seemed to have plenty in their dumpster.

After eating Daphne decided to find a better home.
Since she had been the last to arrive in the Summer she had ended up behind a tree near the pond.

“Quack that” she said to herself. “I’m picking the best spot of all. Right next to the pond.”
So she did.

And since she was alone she snuck all the best stuff from the nests in her new fancy pants neighborhood and put them in her new home.

In a few short months the other ducks returned.

They were shocked to see Daphne already there with her brood of ducksquirrels which were swimming and climbing trees like only crossbred children can.
I suppose it gets lonely if your a lone duck at the pond. Apparently the squirrel dude was lonely as well..

“How did you survive the Winter?” all the other ducks asked Daphne.

“It was easy” she replied. “Now get away from my house”

Daphne never revealed the secret of her survival which was Global Warming.
Ducks don’t like to give credit to humans for their help I suppose.

Anyways the squirrel dude took off shortly after.
And Daphne found a male duck that accepted her ducksquirrel children in exchange for living in her new nest.

So, life was, and still is, good..

So the question for you is what is the moral of the story?

You don’t need anyone else to survive? Well, except for maybe humans, who screw things up, but sometimes, their screw-ups actually make things better for you.

I think the moral of the story is yet to come. Now she’s hooked up with this gigolo duck who’s only after her well-feathered nest. Where was he when she was being left behind?
