Sire, I understand your position. I became a consultant when the organization that my hospital was affiliated with decided to move the operation to a city that was 30 minutes further than the hour plus I was already driving, and offered me a 25% pay cut. If I'd had kids I would have had to take it, but I didn't, so I didn't take it. Though I've had ups and down since, I wouldn't change a thing.

With me it wasn't about beliefs or anything Mitch. The company I'm contracted to has been taken over twice. Each time I've had to change or lose money.

I was forced to move to another depot which incurred more traveling costs. Again I was forced to change or suffer the consequences. Some didn't and they've gone under. A couple couldn't cope and they committed suicide.

Changes isn't always good but when it happens you have to adapt to survive.

We're glad you're enjoying it.

Here's the thing, though. I don't know that I'd necessarily say there's a demise. What I'd say is that there has been a modification. Man, on any day I can go to Google Blogs, type in one word, and immediately find 50 personal blogs talking about almost anything you can think of. And way more than half of them are personal blogs instead of business blogs.

What did change was the "diary" blog, because people started to realize that anonymity wasn't quite as anonymous as they'd always thought it was. It turned out that people really didn't want others to find their blog unless they were going to get total agreement; that doesn't always happen, but we do deserve courtesy during disagreement.

So yes, there was a change, but folks didn't totally go away. Instead, others joined the fray and opened up the world of blogging to places no one was ever expecting.

I wrote this post because I still haven't gotten over the demise of the personal blog. It was my way of saying to myself that it was time to move on. Change.

I really am enjoying the discussion that's taking place.

I'm also completely confused that Comment Luv is still listing this post on my comments since it is on page 2 of my posts..
Change, darnit...

Sire, I'll tell you a quick story. You know I'm a consultant. Seems southern states want all consultants to take blood tests before they'll hire them. I refuse; just not going to do it. Now, I've probably lost hundreds of thousands of dollars, but I don't care. If you don't stand for something you'll fall for anything.

I will never abrogate my beliefs for anyone, changes or not. As I said, we all get to make our decisions, and mine will never be based on money, period.

Sometimes you do have to embrace it Mitch. Over the years it's been forced on my on more than one occasion and I had to change the way I did things or become less profitable.

Actually, that's true, but it doesn't mean we have to accept it. I drop a lot of things that change if I don't like them. I can afford to do it, and I'll do it in a heartbeat. I'll even drop people who change for the worse, and I'm ready to move away from anyone whose values suddenly aren't palatable to me.

Here's the thing. You really don't have to embrace change, but you have to be ready to move on if you don't want to embrace it. Choice is a wonderful thing.

As I have found out more than one occasion in my life. When there is no other way around it you have to embrace change or suffer the consequences.

I agree with both you and Mitch. Change just for the sake of change isn't always the best course of action.

Unfortunately change is inevitable and a lot of times we don't make the decision..
