Questions

24 Feb

Today I received an email from my webhost advising me that they have corrected their internal problems with their servers.

I’ve checked my site and everything seems to be working.

But, in the past week or so that I’ve had really limited access to my site I’ve started thinking about things. Things like:

-Why am I blogging?
Having a couple of extra hours a day has given me time to do other things. Things that I apparently like doing. Like fixing things in my home, going outside more, watching tv..
So, my first question is do I really want to continue blogging?

-If I do continue blogging what exactly do I want to get from it?
My current site is a mess. It goes from writing stories which I enjoy doing to writing commentary on business topics which I also enjoy.
I just don’t want to do them both on the same site.

-Who am I reading and why?
I tend to follow both personal sites and business related sites.
I get the personal sites part. I like reading them.
The business type sites are good but I cut out a large number of them.
My criteria was related to who responds to comments or requests for information.

If I continue blogging what should I write about?
At the moment I’m thinking of turning my current site into a personal blog only.
And, perhaps starting a second site for the business side of my personality.
I’ve never had more than one blog so I’m not sure how it will work out.
But, I do know that I’m not happy with what I’m doing now.

Should I just quit?
I don’t think so. I like writing. I like the communities.
There are various things that interest me..
I just want to separate the interests..

Just some thoughts..

So, if you have more than one site why do you?
Does it work ok for you or do you find that it’s really hard splitting your time between them?

I don’t think you should just quit. Though, that might be selfishness on my part.

As to your idea of having 2 separate blogs, I think you may be right. It does appear that there are two groups of people visiting your site, but they generally only comment on one or the other type of post, not both. You may be able to build up more of an audience if you separated them.

Glad your host fixed the problem!

I totally disagree with Skye — not about the part about you not quitting; I agree that you shouldn’t. But I disagree about splitting the blog. I have never seen anyone really do this successfully. There’s no reason why your blog can’t be both. If the story people don’t want to read your business posts they don’t have to and vice versa, but you’ll keep both groups here and they may “cross-read”. I sometimes do. But if you had 2 separate blogs I would probably never go to the business blog and might miss out on something interesting. My blog is all over the place, too. Lots of blogs are. Unless you’re actually trying to make money with a business blog or have a blog directly related to a business you’re trying to make money with, then I see no reason for having a separate blog. The end.

“I do have feelings”…hahaha. That line had me laughing out loud. You definitely look a lot more comfortable in front of the camera. It felt as if you were just sitting there talking to me.

I’m not gonna say whether or not I like the new theme, because you always seem to go the opposite direction of whatever I say.

Guess there are nested comments after all.

I like the layout of this theme but I don’t like lots of little things about it.
Like: no nested comments and lot’s of plugins that won’t work with it.

Hopefully the videos are starting to get better. They are getting easier to do. I like having the “featured video” on the sidebar. It’s easier to change them up.

You’re gonna have to wear a different color cap in each video so that we know you’ve put up a new one.

I should look into that, ha,ha..

I’m hoping to change up the videos about once a week..
